Iamdata Solutions Asset Management Consultants for Local Government Turns 5! Time to Celebrate!

Updated: Dec 9, 2023

Welcome to the Iamdata Solutions Asset Management Monthly Newsletter - September 2022

It’s Iamdata Solutions 5th birthday! I’m always grateful to the fabulous people who I have worked with over the years, and this seems the perfect opportunity to say a very big THANK YOU! Thank you for trusting me and allowing me to help you with your Asset Management and data tasks, and thank you for the friendships forged along the way.

You may have slightly different job titles, Asset Manager, Asset Coordinator, Manager Assets, Asset Engineer, etc, but there are some key activities that someone working in this role will be responsible for:

  • Developing and implementing the asset management framework throughout the organisation.

  • Working with all teams across the organisation to build consistent integrated asset management processes to drive improvement in Council’s asset management capabilities.

  • Analysing and drawing evidence-based conclusions from the asset data to make decisions about when and how to maintain and renew the assets.

To achieve success, you will need to be multi-skilled in many different disciplines, including having a good understanding of the various infrastructure assets lifecycles, understand how to read data analysis, and have empathy and a good understanding of the needs and requirements of all the departments throughout the organisation (who are obviously doing Asset Management but in some cases don’t realise it!)

You most definitely have to be passionate about the job, love and embrace innovation and technology, as well as having the ability to lead and motivate others.

Wow, it’s a big job!!

I started writing the Iamdata Solutions Asset Management monthly newsletter blog at the start of 2022 because I wanted to pass on some of what I have learned, to provide help, inspiration, tips and tricks, tutorials for tools and technology that may help all you amazing people working within the Asset Management space and hopefully make your jobs a little bit easier.

I began my Iamdata Asset Management business in September 2017 to help in more tangible ways. Whether you need help with data cleansing, data updates, data analysis and visualisation, Asset System and/or GIS software development, data Integration solutions, condition audits and data collection, or help with maintaining your asset management systems (GIS/AMS), I am happy to have helped many Councils with these over the last 5 years. I’ve worked with some wonderful people in South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland and I love the work I do.

So, since we're celebrating success, let's talk about celebrating your successes! It is such a small thing..... but such a huge thing too.

I know it can be difficult sometimes to find the time to acknowledge your good work let alone taking time to celebrate your successes, especially when you’re dealing with a high workload and several other demands upon your time. I know when I've finished a project and I know the customer is happy, quite often I just breath a sigh of relief and hurry on to the next project. As long as the customer is happy then that's everything. But actually, I think it is important to give yourselves a pat on the back when something has gone well and I know we don’t do this often enough.

It's important to spend some time reflecting on how a project went and to recognise and celebrate the successes. Council type projects usually involve many people, sometimes several teams of internal and external people and when they are working well together to achieve the desired outcome, then that is something that definitely should be celebrated.

If an individual or a team’s good work has resulted in tangible, beneficial results to the organisation, then let them know that their contributions are valued and appreciated. It's a fact that when people feel valued and are happy in their work they perform better. You are also creating a positive company culture that will encourage your best talent to stay for the long term.

Reflection also provides a great opportunity to assess how a process went and where there may be ways to perfect and refine aspects of it and include these improvements into the process ready for next time.

So, don’t forget to acknowledge you and your team’s achievement regularly, celebrate your wins together and let people know of your achievements. I would like to invite you to share your stories here - we would all love to hear them and join in congratulating you on work well done.

Happy celebrations!
